Unprotected heterosexual sex continues to be the main transmission route for new infections. The illegal nature of sex work and homosexuality in Zimbabwe presents huge barriers for sex workers and men who have sex with men from accessing HIV services. Nearly every pregnant woman now has access to antiretroviral medicines thanks to the success of PMTCT services in Zimbabwe — also contributing to a decline of new infections among infants.
Over three quarters of HIV expenditure in Zimbabwe comes from international donor sources. Women are disproportionately affected, particularly adolescent girls and young women. However, there are growing epidemics among key populations such as sex workers and men who have sex with men who are at higher risk of HIV.

A fortnight ago, Moyo was given the platform by Mugabe to prove his allegations that Mnangagwa was plotting against the year-old ruler. However, the bombshell arrived when he accused Mnangagwa of forcing a prominent former journalist, Godfrey Majonga, who was allegedly dating the same woman as him — to either sit on a hot stove or jump off the second or third floor of a building.
A politburo source said: However, Mnangagwa was dismissive of most charges brought by Moyo, the sources said. The well-planned assault on Mnangagwa appeared to be the first salvo of a well-coordinated attack followed up by first lady Grace Mugabe on Thursday, who compared Mnangagwa to the Biblical Adonijah, who installed himself king even before King David had died.

Towers of Great Zimbabwe Proto-Shona-speaking societies first emerged in the middle Limpopo valley in the 9th century before moving on to the Zimbabwean highlands. The Zimbabwean plateau eventually became the centre of subsequent Shona states, beginning around the 10th century. Around the early 10th century, trade developed with Arab merchants on the Indian Ocean coast, helping to develop the Kingdom of Mapungubwe in the 11th century.
This was the precursor to the more impressive Shona civilisations that would dominate the region during the 13th to 15th centuries, evidenced by ruins at Great Zimbabwe , near Masvingo , and other smaller sites. The main archaeological site uses a unique dry stone architecture. The Kingdom of Mapungubwe was the first in a series of sophisticated trade states developed in Zimbabwe by the time of the first European explorers from Portugal. They traded in gold, ivory, and copper for cloth and glass.
This Shona state further refined and expanded upon Mapungubwe’s stone architecture, which survives to this day at the ruins of the kingdom’s capital of Great Zimbabwe. This Shona state ruled much of the area that is known as Zimbabwe today, and parts of central Mozambique. It is known by many names including the Mutapa Empire , also known as Mwene Mutapa or Monomotapa as well as “Munhumutapa,” and was renowned for its strategic trade routes with the Arabs and Portugal.
The Portuguese sought to monopolise this influence and began a series of wars which left the empire in near collapse in the early 17th century.

Traveller Erik Pierson rode the train in late Everything worked, linen was delivered and very clean, the train was maybe not so clean, but we could watch the staff disinfecting and cleaning in the morning, so it was acceptable standard. The linen man made the beds after departure and followed the train all night, and took back the linen at arrival in Victoria Falls, all this for 2 customers and 4 USD each! There was a generator car, as well as some water to flush the toilet and a lock inside the compartment.
Some problems climbing into the upper bed, since there was no ladder, but it worked. Nice staff and a wonderful trip, we could see giraffes, antelopes and monkeys from the train. Felt safe, with nice staff. Arrived maybe an hour late to Victoria falls due to heavy load, but we would not mind more delays, since the trip was so fascinating.
